Ces expressions (et il doit en exister bien d'autres) sont utilisées par les vendeurs de mécanismes publicitaires, les régies publicitaires, dans le monde numérique. Elles font allusion, globalement, aux « Smart Links ». Il s'agit d'intégrations publicitaires construites à la volée, sur les pages Web visitées par l'internaute, au sein même du contenu rédactionnel (textuel, éditorial) des pages.
Ces technologies se vendent bien, par les régies publicitaires, auprès des annonceurs publicitaires et des éditeurs de sites, car elles échappent aux formats et emplacements traditionnels (dits « in-banner », normalisés par l'IAB [Publicité sur le Web - Table des standards dimensionnels]) des sites supports, avec le phénomène d'accoutumance des internautes qui finissent par ne plus les regarder, et même ne plus les voir (« banner blindness »), outre les mécanismes de blocage total de la publicité sur le Web, mis de plus en plus en place par les internautes submergés de publicités.
Toutefois, ne jamais oublier que la publicité est le modèle économique d'un Web gratuit. Autorisez les sites Web que vous souhaitez soutenir à afficher quelques publicités sinon ils vont disparaître.
